Paranoid Social Club is garage power-pop from another planet. Fiery, impassioned, fun, and anthemic. That is exactly what you will hear on the forthcoming 2013 LP ‚ÄúThe Listening Party.‚ÄĚ The album displays the band at their most mature, daring, and diverse; conjuring comparisons to early The Who and The Clash, PSC serve their music loud. The Paranoid Social Club are Dave Gutter (Vox ,guitar, and vacuum) Jon Roods (bass, synths, and percussion) Trent Gay (guitar, vox) and Craig Sala (drums, vox). Welcome to The Paranoid Social Club, this is ‚ÄúThe Listening Party.‚ÄĚ
The first single off of ‚ÄúThe Listening Party,‚ÄĚ is ‚ÄúThe Night is Young.‚ÄĚ It bursts with energy and enough ear candy to give The Bee Gees a cavity. Front man, Dave Gutter sings undeniable hook after hook over a bombastic stomp. Sprinkled with pop synths and carpeted in fuzz ‚ÄúThe Night is Young.‚ÄĚ is a dizzying account of champagne parties and afterlife.
The amazing thing about ‚ÄúThe Listening Party‚ÄĚ is that it is an album that has no tracks that fall short of the first single. Sincere and literal, the lyrical content of ‚ÄúThe Listening Party‚ÄĚ is relatable and delivered like blues from a confessional at gospel church.
‚ÄúThe Listening Party‚ÄĚ was produced entirely by Jon Roods and Dave Gutter, who honed their unique sound working with producers Toni Visconti (David Bowie, T-Rex) and David Leonard (Prince, Fishbone). More recently, Gutter penned lyrics for, and Jon Roods engineered Eric Krasno‚Äôs (Soulive, Lettuce) solo debut at their Rustic studio in Portland, ME. The album features The London Souls rhythm section, Nigel Hall and was mixed by Russ Elevado (D’angelo, Jay-Z). Gaining a reputation as up and coming producers/songwriters, sound of ‚ÄúThe Listening Party‚ÄĚ is raw and to the point.
In 2011, in support of their self released album Axis IV, the band hit the road for a tour with the legendary punk rockers Fishbone, as well as Stone Temple Pilots, Sick Puppies, and headlining their own national tour with stops at SXSW, The Viper Room in Los Angeles, and other festivals and high profile clubs across the country.
Riding on Visionary Music’s radio and marketing, Paranoid Social Club attained thousands of spins across the country including KROQ in Los Angeles and attaining Steve Jones of the Sex Pistols as one of the bands biggest supporters. Other stations followed suit and Paranoid Social Club peaked at number 12 on the national albums the FMQB chart with Axis IV ahead of platinum selling artists and tying with Jane’s Addiction.
Throughout the album you can hear a band with their own sound. Gutter‚Äôs lyrics are like no other. Many of the songs have a delicate feel ‚ÄúHuman Heart”, ‚ÄúMad Pretty‚ÄĚ but trade syrup for swagger. ‚ÄúThat‚Äôs What She Said‚ÄĚ is easily the most tongue in cheek ballad of the year. Rock beats and fairytales of the drunkenhearted, PSC is psyche-pop for the punchbowl. Strong and sweet.
